On October 5, 2024, the "ORF Long Night of Museums" returns for its 24th edition, inviting culture enthusiasts to experience Vienna in a unique way. From 6:00 PM until midnight, numerous museums, galleries, and cultural institutions will open their doors, offering a diverse program for every taste. Here’s everything you need to know for an unforgettable evening.

The "ORF Long Night of Museums" is an event organized by ORF (Austrian Broadcasting Corporation) and has become a staple in Vienna’s cultural calendar. On this special night, visitors can explore a wide variety of museums and galleries with just one ticket. In addition to regular exhibitions, special events and activities will be offered, exclusively for this night. This year, there are many new locations opening their doors for Long Night visitors, waiting to be discovered.

“Treffpunkt Museum”: Your Central Meeting Point

The central meeting point for all visitors is the “Treffpunkt Museum”, or “Museum Information Point” located at Maria-Theresien-Platz in Vienna. Here, you can get further information, booklets, and tickets for the "ORF Long Night of Museums" .The meeting point will be open on the following days:

- Thursday, October 3: 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM

- Friday, October 4: 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM

- Saturday, October 5: from 9:00 AM onwards

How much are the tickets? Where can you buy them? Are there discounts?

Tickets for the "ORF Long Night of Museums" 2024 are priced at €17 for regular admission, while discounted tickets are available for €14. More details can be found on the website. Children under the age of twelve (born after October 4, 2012) receive free entry. 

Tickets are available for pre-sale until September 29, 2024, online at tickets.ORF.at , as well as at participating museums and cultural institutions.

You can also buy your tickets at the Vienna Sightseeing Service Center. It has the following address Opernring 3-5, Top Nr. 17-24, 1010 Vienna and is open daily from 09:00 - 18:00.

On the day of the event, tickets can also be purchased directly at the “Treffpunkt Museum”.

Many renowned museums such as the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Naturhistorisches Museum, and Leopold Museum will be participating in the "ORF Long Night of Museums". Additionally, several smaller, lesser-known museums, as well as new locations, will be open, waiting to be explored. The museums will remain open until midnight, giving you plenty of time to visit multiple venues. 

A special highlight of the "ORF Long Night of Museums" 2024 is the children’s activities, designed specifically for families and younger visitors. Museums offering a special children’s program will be marked in the "Categories" section with the "Children’s Program" label. 

For each children’s program attended, young visitors can collect stamps in their Kids’ Pass, available at all participating museums. After visiting three locations, they can pick up a small surprise gift at the “Treffpunkt Museum”. If you are unable to collect the gift in person, you can send the stamped pass (address and deadline available on the official "ORF Long Night of Museums" website) to receive the gift. 

The program booklet, which includes all participating museums and special events, will be available starting in September at the museums and on the day of the event at the “Treffpunkt Museum”. This booklet is essential for planning your evening and ensuring you don’t miss out on any highlights.

How does Vienna Sightseeing Tours participate in the “The ORF Long Night of Museums”?

For visitors of the "ORF Long Night of Museums", there’s a free bus ride provided by Vienna Sightseeing Tours. Three electric buses will run along a set route, starting at Burgring near the Kunsthistorisches Museum and passing through the city center, with stops at Praterstern and Universitätsring. The buses depart every 20 minutes, and the entire route takes about 45 minutes per round. Please note that this evening bus ride is a continuous Vienna sightseeing tour and not on the hop-on hop-off principle.

Additionally, there is a Panorama Train on a shorter route, starting from Burgring near the Naturhistorisches Museum and running through Karlsplatz and the Opera back to the starting point. The train departs every 15 minutes, with a round trip taking around 25 minutes. A free continuous ride on the Panorama Train is included in your "ORF Long Night of Museums" ticket.
